A Creative Use Of Papier-Mâché, Balloons, And LED Lights Resulted In This Epic Halloween Mask

Sara has been working and writing online for so many years, she's unsure if she is still in corporeal form. She considers herself a jack of all trades, but would prefer it if you would stop calling her "Jack."

Making your own Halloween costume can be a pain (especially if you're not artistically inclined or don't own a glue gun). The temptation to find a punny or overly sexual costume online can sometimes just be too great. Reddit user VonRainbowpants, however, refused to be lazy this Halloween season -- and what she created is beyond epic.

Angler fish are the creepy-looking fishermen of the sea, complete with a faux worm lure built right into their foreheads. They're not a fish you'd want to see in person, but apparently, they make excellent Halloween costumes.

First, she sketched out her design on an inflated balloon.

Then, VonRainbowpants used layers of papier-mâché to create the shape of the body.

Lots of drying time later, the teeth were constructed and added to the fish.

They were made by wrapping florists' wire with masking tape and papier-mâché.

The same method was used to create the structures for the tail and fins.

Papier-mâché clay was used to add extra details to the mouth and fins.

Plus, ping pong balls were added as eyes.

She then cut holes for the small LED lights along the spine.

Then, an LED string and separate battery pack were attached inside for the light in the angler.

For the angler's lure, a single LED with a longer wire was used.

Creepy, hilarious, and dramatic. The best Halloween costume combination.

If you know how to use papier-mâché and are brave enough to attempt basic electrical work, this could be your epic angler fish costume! ...Or you could just admire the Reddit user who was better at crafting than you.
