He Took An Old, Beat-Up Desk And Made It Into The Focal Point Of His Living Room

In the DIY world, nothing is really worthy of the trash pile. And that's precisely why, when the genius behind From Trash To Treasure found this old, scratched secretary desk online that someone was just giving away, she jumped on the opportunity to give it a makeover worthy of a CEO.

Here's what she was working with...a dinged-up desk that no one wanted.

In an effort to prime it for painting, she took to sanding down the old lacquer.

The inside needed some serious work.

The top half was only lightly sanded, though.

After all the sanding, she didn't feel the need for a primer and skipped straight to two coats of dark acrylic matte paint.

For the interior, she planned on spray-painting, so a primer was necessary.

She went for (the) gold.

Then it was time for the fabric details...

She cut the pattern to size and painted a thin layer of Mod Podge before placing the cloth.

The desk portion was varnished with two layers of Mod Podge so that it was extra durable.

The original hardware just needed a nice polishing.

And after adding some well-placed gold embellishments, this desk was basically brand-new!

Not. Too. Shabby!

Honestly, I don't even recognize the before from the after! Just goes to show, nothing should ever be tossed aside..."trash" just needs a little TLC to become treasure.
