The laundry room is often the most neglected room in the house (unless you're these guys), but you could imagine how much nicer doing laundry would be if it was a clean, soothing place to spend time in, right? The task would seem far less daunting if it meant you could enjoy the space you were in.
Well, when this man's wife was out of town for one week, he decided to surprise her with a brand-new laundry room when she got back...
This is what he had to work with...not hideous, but not relaxing, either.
The plugs were ugly and exposed.
The cabinets were cheap (and definitely looked it).
The first step was to get some paint on the walls, and to prep the room for the renovation.
Once that was done, he had to get this fluorescent light out of there.
He got a butcher-block countertop, unfinished, for a good price.
All he had to do was give it a good sand and some stain.
It already looks 100x better!
But there was still tons of work to be done before it was all finished.
Once he installed the overhead cabinets, he completed the beautiful stone backsplash.
Crown molding on the cabinetry adds an elegant touch.
You didn't forget about the lighting, did you? Track lighting is so much more soothing than that big white light.
This looks more like a cozy kitchen or living room to me!
For just a week's worth of DIY-ing...this is really impressive! It was so sweet of him to do something special to surprise his wife. No more depressing laundry room in this house -- she might even look forward to spending time in here (maybe).
