This Dad Created An Epic Loft Bed For His Daughter Without Using Nails Or Screws

DECEMBER 4, 2015  —  By Joe Welkie

When I was a kid, all I ever wanted was a loft bed. I thought the concept was so cool. You can sleep up top and have room below for a fort or a toy chest or ANYTHING!

Well, this dad built his daughter an epic loft bed and he didn't even use nails or screws. It sounds dangerous, but when you see his construction, you'll know that it's perfectly safe (and entirely awesome).

First he bought all the lumber and mapped out the bed accordingly.

Using a glue gun and some high-quality wood glue, he started assembling the thing.

Dad got the whole family involved, too! Here's his son helping out with the gluing portion of the build.

The back of the bed, which would attach to the wall via French cleats, was assembled.

The mattress frame was constructed with a series of tabs and slots that fit together -- no screws needed.

The columns also employed this construction technique.

This framing would soon support the mattress.

Some elegant crown molding went on.

...Along with some extra decorative pieces.

Voilà, the perfect loft bed was built for his daughter...and she couldn't be happier!

Any dad who is willing to go through that effort is a great father. And it looks like his little girl couldn't be happier with her new bedroom escape. Hopefully she doesn't outgrow it too soon.
