This Bed Is Already Pretty Cool, But One Dad Made It So Much More Awesome

SEPTEMBER 25, 2015

Buying Ikea furniture is great when you want something that can be easily assembled with step-by-step instructions. But that can also be kind of limiting, since every piece is going to turn out just as the manufacturer planned. What if you want something different?

Well, with a little bit of planning, you can actually turn Ikea furniture into...whatever you want. There are a few online communities of DIY-ers who call themselves Ikea Hackers -- they finagle their purchases into something they want. That's what YouTuber Eric Strong did to Ikea's Kura Bed, turning it into a magical playspace for his son.

It looks like a regular loft bed with a pretty sweet slide and bookshelf built in.

The slide was a custom add-on, designed and built by Strong.

But wait...

Under the bed, there's a secret room, lit with these cool color-cycling lights.
